Hi, I'm Johanna Telander, a Finnish-American singer/songwriter, musical theatre writer and composer.

Starting with a record deal with Universal Music in 2003, and spanning nearly two decades of versatile work ever since, I've been writing, composing, and performing for radio, tv, film and theatre.

I'm probably best known for my debut musical theatre piece,  Kalevala the Musical, ( Book, Music and Lyrics) from which song selections have been showcased at the UN, The NY Scandinavia House, the Estonian House New York, Helsinki Kapsakki Theatre, and the Signature Theatre Off-Broadway. Kalevala the Musical's concept album, which was released in 2022, has earned significant international acclaim, having been listened to in over 80 countries and having found thousands of fans in and outside of theatre communities worldwide.

Some other career highlights include: performing alongside Residente and Bad Bunny on the Tonight Show starring Jimmy Fallon, appearing as an actress on 30Rock, and headlining my own singer-songwriter sets in legendary live music venues around NYC, such as the Bitter End.  In voice-over, I have contributed to film projects such as The Fifth Estate, and major brands such as Volvo. Aside from music projects,  I'm also a published poet!  A Deep Blue Green Song, a book of original earth-themed poems, was published by Bookleaf Publishing in 2023, and can be found for purchase through Barnes and Noble, Amazon and most places books are sold!

Amidst continuing to develop Kalevala the Musical, I just finished scoring my first musical short film project, Quentin Garzón's Gray Land. I'm also currently working on two other musicals: Watcher in the Woods, a New Musical (music by me, book and lyrics by Douglas Thompson) and an original musical still under wraps. (STAY tuned for announcements!) .

Exciting news in the singer-songwriter realm: The recent releases of Sandcastles, Little Angel and For You to Know are a part of a grander plan: I can’t wait to reveal the details for a full album in the works, soon!
